Laval vs Belleville highlights: Rocket fall in a valiant effort

Club de Hockey Canadien With a division title all wrapped up after a dominant showing on Wednesday evening, the Laval Rocket’s goal for the few remaining games this season was to give their young prospects a chance to get their feet wet in expanded roles. On Friday that was especially true as Ryan Poehling had been shut down for the year with a wrist injury, while Alex Belzile remained on the Montreal Canadiens’ taxi squad. With Yannick Veilleux also suspended, the Rocket were down to just 11 forwards for the showdown with Belleville. Joël Bouchard was going to lean heavily on his few remaining veterans in Laurent Dauphin, Lukas Vejdemo, and Jordan Weal to help keep the young lineup rolling shift to shift. On defence it was Terrance Amorosa drawing in as the seventh defender, while Michael McNiven got the start.

Joseph Woll makes 57 saves, Marlies edge Rocket 4-3 in OT to end skid | iNFOnews

May 04, 2021 - 7:00 PM MONTREAL - Joseph Woll stopped 57-of-60 shots as the Toronto Marlies edged the Laval Rocket 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday in American Hockey League play. Woll stopped all 38 shots he faced through two periods, and kept his team up a goal when the Marlies were outshot 26-8 in the second frame. Woll was finally beaten on Laval s 46th shot 1:33 into the third. Nic Petan scored the winner at 4:49 of the extra period to help Toronto halt a five-game losing streak. Jeremy McKenna, Noel Hoefenmayer and Martin Marincin rounded out the offence for the Marlies (11-13-1). Yannick Veilleux struck twice while Xavier Ouellet was the first skater to beat Woll for the Rocket (22-5-3), who had their five-game win streak come to end but still captured the Canadian Division title with a single point.

Rocket vs Marlies highlights: Laval clinches division title in OT loss

Club de Hockey Canadien With seven games left in the season, the Laval Rocket were in a spot to do something that a Montreal Canadiens AHL affiliate hadn’t done in a long time: clinch a division title. All they needed was a single point against the Toronto Marlies, but they still had quite the challenge on their hands. They were without Alex Belzile and Cayden Primeau (recalled to the NHL), Joseph Blandisi, Michael Pezzetta, and Joel Teasdäle (season-ending injuries), and Ryan Poehling and Cale Fleury (day to day). Xavier Ouellet was back in the lineup, as were Laurent Dauphin and Brandon Baddock. Joining them were Arsen Khisamutdinov, Jan Myšák, and Cam Hillis to round out the forward group. Michael McNiven got the start and looked to continue his hot streak after a shutout victory over the Belleville Senators in his last outing.
