SOUTH DEERFIELD Frontier Regional School will be getting new uniforms for its basketball, football and soccer teams, thanks to a $4,000 donation from Yankee Candle Co.
Principal George Lanides called the donation “a wonderful thing,” and noted the new uniforms will be designed with a different logo.
“There’s still a Native American feather for the ‘F’ on our uniform,” he said. “We’re trying to eliminate that racist iconography.”

SOUTH DEERFIELD Harlan Kent, the president and CEO of Yankee Candle Co., is leaving after 13 years.
Rachel Wilson, a spokeswoman with Jarden Corp., confirmed that Kent will “eventually move on. He has exciting opportunities ahead of him.”
The move is a personal decision by Kent and is not related to Jarden’s purchase of Yankee Candle in November, said Wilson. Kent and the leadership team at Yankee was among the reasons Jarden became interested in the company, Wilson said.

“At the time of the acquisition, a key reason (for the purchase) was the strength of the bench. He’s done a lot for the business. We’re very impressed with what he’s done,” Wilson said.
