Taipei, July 17 (CNA) Several earthquakes jolted Hualien County, eastern Taiwan, Saturday morning, but no major damage or injuries were immediately reported, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
Hualien, a subduction zone comprising the Eurasian plate and the Philippine Sea plate, saw in recent days a series of temblors taking place as a quick way to release energy.
At 8:43 a.m., a 3.2 magnitude quake hit the county, with the epicenter located about 5.2 kilometers south of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 12.4 km, the Seismology Center said.
The earthquake s intensity, which gauges its actual effect, was highest in Hualien, where it measured 4 on Taiwan s 7-tier intensity scale, the CWB said.
