ABU, Yamaguchi Prefecture A man who was mistakenly sent 46.3 million yen ($358,140) in COVID-19 relief funds by his town said he had gambled the money away on overseas casino sites, his lawyer reported on May 17.

The mistake occurred in early April when Abu officials were sending ¥100,000 in financial aid to each of its low-income households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABU, Yamaguchi Prefecture The town of Abu filed a lawsuit with a district court on May 12 demanding a resident return a whopping 46.3 million yen ($356,656) in COVID-19 financial aid deposited in his account by mistake and pay legal fees.
