WORK is underway on the completion of the new £3m relief road in Monkton Heathfield, with works to tie in to the A3259 currently being carried out - as seen in the image. The Western Relief Road is being delivered by Persimmon Homes South West and is part of a package of highway works associated with urban extension of the area. Most of the works to date have been undertaken offline, but the new road now needs to be connected to the A3259. An 11-week road closure is currently in progress between Tudor Way and Yallands Hill to make these connections. Diversions are signposted and access for local residents will be maintained.
DRIVERS are being advised to plan ahead following peak time delays this week on a main road into and out of Taunton. Tailbacks have been caused by the closure of the road between Tudor Way and Yallands Hill, in Monkton Heathfield. The road is set to be closed for a further ten weeks as work to complete the £3million relief road near completion. The work will see the new road tied into the A3259. Diversions have been signposted since the work started on Monday of this week, while access has been maintained for people living locally. A Somerset County Council spokesperson said: “The current closure of the A3259 near Yallands Hill is to enable the developer to carry out essential work to link new housing to the road network.
