Multiple people were injured after a motorist drove through a crowd of protesters in Manhattan on Friday afternoon, according to police and witnesses.
Demonstrators marching against Immigration and Customs Enforcement were walking in the street on 39th near 2nd Avenue just after 4 p.m. when the driver of a black sedan sped through the group, according to Yacine Diallo, a 21-year-old demonstrator. We got run over by a car, Diallo told Gothamist. Between 5 and 10 people got hurt. Now police are trying to arrest us.
Six people were hospitalized, according to the FDNY. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known. A spokesperson for the NYPD said that the driver remained on the scene, but it was not immediately clear if they d been charged.
