Today, MediaTek released the Dimensity 900 SoC that uses the 6nm manufacturing process. This is the latest processor of the Dimensity 5G SoC series. This chip comes with a hardware-level 4K HDR video recording, supports up to 108MP camera, 5G dual Netcom and Wi-Fi 6 connection. It also supports a 120Hz FHD+ Ultra HD resolution display.

Huawei expects 5G networks to start experiencing medium to high loads soon. The growth rate of 5G users in China will reach 30% in 2021, 42.9% in 2022, 56.8% in 2023, 70.4% in 2024 and 81.7% in 2025.
IDC: The smartphone market has returned to growth
Experts of the analytical company IDC summed up the results of the fourth quarter of 2020 and the whole year in general on the smartphone market. As stated in the corresponding report, the smartphone market returned to growth. Sales in the fourth quarter of 2020 were 385.9 million units, which is 4.3% more than smartphones sold in the fourth quarter of 2019. At the same time, for the entire 2020, smartphones were sold 5.9% less than in 2019.
At the end of the fourth quarter of 2020, Apple was named the market leader. It was able to increase sales in annual terms, that is, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, by 22.2% – from 73.8 to 90.1 million devices. This led to an increase in Apple’s share from 19.9% to 23.4%. As it became known, MediaTek is currently the largest supplier of mobile SoCs for smartphones in China. Despite the downturn in the Chinese market, MediaTek managed to outpace the competition and lead the market. SoC shipments in China totaled 307 million units in 2020, down 20.8% from 2019.
MediaTek took first place with a market share of 31.7% in the second half of 2020, while in the first half of the year the company held 17.9% of the market. At the same time, Hisilicon’s market share from 37% in the first half of last year to 27.2% in the second half. Qualcomm’s share fell from 30.8% in the first half to 25.4% in the second half.
