trended toward president obama in 2008, but they swung back hard to the republican side in the 2010 elections. is there any indication that they re going to go back to obama this time? well, in the data in the last few weeks, i think one of the reasons you ve seen the democrats rise across the board and particularly president obama s numbers is that he s winning back a bunch of those white male voters that were lost to the democrats in 2010. if you look at his numbers now, he s very close to replicating the same coalition that he used in 2008 to get 53% of the vote. i mean, he s put that team back together, that band back together. and part of what he had to do, right, and the difference between 2010 and 2012 is that he had to appeal to those voters on economic grounds, he had to make the economic argument that his plan was better than mitt romney s plan and he was going to be better for them. i think what you have yo seen in the data in the piece just before we came on here showing
breaking up families and trying to be tensative, but believe the deportations are important middle ground. they are not going to move forward with aggressive amnesty and alienated a huge part of the base as well. they are trying to navigate to the middle. in the polls, even the dissatisfaction is not really affecting how they are going to vote in the up coming elections. we canรง show you that prove that. good news for the president and he leads mitt romney amongula seenos and that s nearly the same that he had with john mccain. does sign he may lose ground in 2012? i don t think so. what you see is the republicans did fairly well and george w. bush had a little bump in support from hispanic voters. that trended downwards. mccain didn t do as well and obama is holding support from
vote for for house of representatives and shows republicans ahead by 7 points. if you go back gallup has been asking that since 1942 and i believe that republicans haven t been ahead by 4 points and now averaging 17 points and ahead, 14 points in gallup s likely voter low turnout model. so it sounds like it really could be extraordinary. when you and i talked about a month ago, you know, we talked about how the midwest, the upper midwest, going into the mid atlantic, was an area where republicans hadn t done well in recent elections, but were making a comeback. is that trend still holding? yeah, that trend seems to be holding, what we re seeing here is that in the industrial heartland, the blue collar, trended towards the americans you saw that in recessional elections in 1970, 1982.
republicans have, in some cases, significant or commanding leads in states that have been trending very blue in just the past few years, look at michigan, for instance, with two democratic senators, and a democratic governor. the governor s race in michigan, with rick snyder, the guy who ran the clever ad touting himself as one tough nerd, the former head of gateway is not come fifth anymore and republicans are almost certain to pick up a governorship in a state that trended owe blue, that, you know, republicans have not been competitive for a couple of cycles and the same thing happened in pennsylvania, we aren t spending a lot of time talking about the governor s race there, because it is all most a forgone conclusion that. bill: is that right? two years ago it was all democratic. exactly. bill: obama country, and they were picking up voters all over the philadelphia area. central part of the state and the counties around pittsburgh and you say now, that is changing? that dramatica
