A 27-year-old Canadian man has been arrested trying to smuggle more than half a ton of vacuum-sealed marijuana in 30 hockey bags into the United States, according to a news release from federal prosecutors. Xiao Liu was charged with possessing more than 220 pounds of marijuana with the intent to distribute and importation of marijuana into the United States, federal prosecutors said. If convicted, Liu could face a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison. Liu was arrested on Monday after being stopped at the Peace Bridge Port of Entry, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.
