BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, announced May 13 Southern University and Xavier University will receive over $4.4 million combined in grant funding, in support of both universitiesâ Center of Excellence.
The U.S. Department of Agricultureâs National Institute of Food and Agriculture is awarding Southern University a $1,680,000 grant to establish the Center of Excellence for Nutrition, Health, Wellness, and Quality of Life to address diet related health disparities in African Americans.

Organized by the Xavier University of Louisiana Center for Undergraduate Research and Graduate Opportunity (CURGO), the Festival of Scholars is an opportunity for Xavier students and faculty to present their research and creative work to the entire campus community.
CURGO and Xavier’s Student Government Association (SGA) are hosting an in-person kick-off event on April 8, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the UC Yard. Limited lunches are available, with a performance by the Xavier pom squad and a prize raffle. Masks are required to attend, and COVID-19 safety compliance will be enforced.
The 2021 Festival of Scholars will be held virtually, with pre-recorded presentations available to view starting April 5 and live presentations from April 8-9th. Around 60 students will be presenting their work, including several BUILD students and technicians.
