Burgdorf. We begin in washington, d. C. Where lawmakers are one step closer to avoiding a second Government Shutdown with under 48 hours to go until that deadline. The house approved a continuing resolution to fund the government yesterday and a 245182 vote. The bill keeps the lights on until march 23 and fully funds the department of defense for the remainder of the fiscal year. It also includes two years of funding for Community Health centers and extends several expiring health care programs. The measure now heads to the senate where leaders are expected to rewrite the bill to not only avoid the shutdown, but also get a longer term budget deal in place. Leaders are working to finalize the plan. That is expected to include a defense spending boost demanded by President Trump as well as an increase in domestic programs sought by the democrats.
