New street names celebrate Melrose Park’s rich history
Five new roads and a park in one of Sydney’s newest precincts, Melrose Park, will be named in honour of the area’s historic past – from its role in making Australia’s favourite jelly to entertaining locals with mini-golf.
City of Parramatta Council this week endorsed a selection of proposed names for the precinct, including Appleroth Street, a tribute to Adolphus Herbert Frederick Norman Appleroth, the creator of Aeroplane Jelly; Bundil Boulevard, in remembrance of Sally Bundil, a local Aboriginal woman born in the early 1800s; and Putt Putt Park, in recognition of the much-loved mini-golf course that was formerly located at the site between 1969 and 2016.
