Taiwan won 21 gold medals, 25 silvers and three bronzes at the World Genius Convention and Education Expo in Tokyo, more than any other nation.
Taiwan submitted 66 works among more than 170 entries from 12 countries, including the US, Canada, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, China and Thailand, Chinese Innovation and Invention Society chairman Wu Chih-yao (吳智堯), who led the Taiwanese delegation, said on Sunday.
A noteworthy winner was Yeh Hsing-chi (葉倖綺), a fourth-grader at Ne-shin Elementary School in Taichung’s Dali District (大里).
Yeh won a gold medal with her “soft hat structure,” invented under the instruction of her grandfather, Yeh Ching-hsiou (葉清秀),
Taiwanese inventions dominate genius convention

Taiwan clinched the No. 1 spot among exhibiting nations in this year’s World Genius Convention and Education Expo, winning 23 gold, 18 silver and four bronze medals.
Chinese Innovation and Invention Society chairman Wu Chih-yao (吳智堯) said that 150 products and devices from 13 countries competed in the online event, with 55 coming from Taiwan.
Chen Wen-liang (陳文亮), a product design professor at Shu-Te University, and his student Huang Wan-tzu (黃婉慈) won a gold medal for inventing a smart device that helps people regularly sanitize their environment.

Bagging a gold medal at an international invention competition may not translate to commercial success, but it provides invaluable experience and creative inspiration for students interested in science and technology

In less than a year, 10th-grader Isabella Peng (彭少函) went from not knowing how to use a screwdriver to claiming a gold medal at the Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies.
Peng and her team of junior and senior high school students took top honors for their invention, a wheelchair that mechanically rises so that users can use regular toilets. The competition was held virtually last month.
