turn around an economy. growth rate hasn t kept up with the rest of the country according to the president. is ed gillespie making the best case for this or has northam championed this message. if you look at what gillespie is talking about improving the economy, northam didn t attend most of the meetings when he was lieutenant governor for economic development. that tells you a lot. i worked for a governor two governors in indiana and jobs, economic growth are a top priority. for virginians you have to look. other states are competing against them for jobs. you want someone who will go to bat for you, for the commonwealth because you are facing a lot of competition out there from other republican governors. sandra: we talked about what is at stake for republicans and the president s influence in this race. what s at stake for democrats. the hill put out a piece this morning, a must-win for democrats in virginia giving
gillespie is as establishment rerepublican as you can get. veteran of the w. bush white house. long-time lobbyist. an establishment republican and washington creature. on the other hand i think he sees where the wind is blowing among the republican electorate and embraced some of the president s position on social issues, things like confederate monuments and not a social issue but crime. he has been very strong on that. so i think what you are going to see is if gillespie were to win and remember, he has been behind in the polls almost the whole time. bill: but closing. it s been closing. the last 10 polls in the real clear politics average northam has been ahead in nine out of those 10. bill: thanks for that analysis. ed gillespie predicted victory last hour. he came close in 2014 statewide. we ll see he has con trails of
