USC signee Jaxson Dart named MaxPreps Utah High School Football Player of the Year
DRAPER When Jaxson Dart first transferred to Corner Canyon ahead of his senior year of high school football, he did so knowing he would be under the microscope.
He d have the pressure of a team that had won back-to-back state championships and held the longest active winning streak in Utah s top classification.
He more than lived up to them.
Under Dart s command, the Chargers (14-0) rolled to their third consecutive state title and pushed a wining streak over 40-straight games. Dart s personal journey culminated in December, when he signed with USC in advance of graduating early and joining the Trojans in time for spring football.
DRAPER The next time Jackson Light meets up with Corner Canyon teammate Jaxson Dart, it will be as Pac-12 rivals.
Light, the top-rated center in Utah and No. 2 overall recruit, signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to play for the University of Oregon, a school where he s been committed for several months. But when he sees Dart, his quarterback for the past year, Fight On may be living inside his head.
It s enough to make Light, who also played defensive tackle, consider trying to move to defense for at least one game. Dart a four-star quarterback who held offers from Arizona State, UCLA and BYU signed with USC on Wednesday.

He remembers taking a seat in a chair opposite his coach.
But he doesn t remember much after that: just tears, hugging and a lot of emotions.
This week, Griffitts, a senior tight end and fullback, was finally rewarded with a scholarship from the BYU football program. In most years, such an announcement would ve been made in front of the team, after practice or a game, and the 100-plus members of the Cougars would jump and hoot and holler as they smothered Griffitts.
This year, there was none of that, largely because of COVID-19 precautions and social distancing measures designed to keep players and coaches apart as much as possible.
