The magical sea creature Thyota has a seemingly impossible task: to rid the ocean of pollution and save the coral forest. Consuming toxic contaminants and freeing other creatures are key to reaching this goal, but both come at a cost to Thyota’s own health. Traveling through the ocean, Thyota must make choices that will affect the entire marine ecosystem.
Thyota is the main character in a new game, titled “Metamorphosis: Thyota’s Journey,” under development at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and in collaboration with the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies, headquartered at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.

The Climate Forward 2021 event kicked off Monday with its first virtual roundtable discussion. The solutions-based climate change conference will take place throughout the week, taking a break on Thursday for both a Wellness Day and Earth Day, according to Kamy Akhavan.
Akhavan, executive director of the USC Center for Political Future, represents one of several organizations involved in Climate Forward 2021. In addition to the Center for the Political Future, both the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies and GRoW@Annenberg will collaborate to host the week-long discussion about climate issues.
Dr. Dutton works within the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies to to advance the institute s research mission and partnerships both on and off campus, and connect those programs with education, policy and other interdisciplinary initiatives. Her research background is in marine eco-physiology, looking at the distribution and function of intertidal species along the California coast, and how ranges map onto environment with implications for understanding climate impacts. She also held marine policy fellowships with the National Academies Ocean Studies Board and NOAA Fisheries before coming to USC. She coordinates programming at the natural-social science interface, and collaborates in many of the institute s research investigations and educational programs.

Biofuels that power cars, jet airplanes, ships and big trucks come primarily from corn and other mass-produced farm crops. But researchers at the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies, headquartered at USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, have looked to the ocean for what could be an even better biofuel crop: seaweed.
