the turkish president will meet with vladimir putin so he could see some more progress on negotiates in this fight, leland, thank you. leland: steve, real quick, what s the mood on the kurds on this, do they feel the secretary s feelings that it s holding? a lot of wounded kurds were able to get out of key cities, i think the overall mood here is one of deep disappointment not only in the u.s. but in the world about allowing what they call an ethic cleansing to take place, that s their view, leland. leland: steve has been in so many battlefields, a lot of reporting coming from steve, steve, thanks to you and your crew, molly. for more on this we turn to fox news strategic analyst and chairman, retired four star general jack keane. you did not want to see this occur, now that we are watching
what s happening there on the ground, your thoughts and we also have a map that might help you explain your thoughts at this point in time. yeah, certainly i was very disappointed in what took place here and we have enumerated that for the last week or so, where are we now, you can see on the map there, that s the so-called safe zone, buffer zone, right up by the turkish syrian border and the two towns that you have listed there, are the two towns that the kurds have successfully withdrawn out of without any interference from the turks, what the syrian kurds do not want to do through the entire swath of yellow there, pull everybody out of there because that s their homes, that s where they work, hundreds of thousands of people there and most policymakers would define that as ethnic cleansing and i think the united states and others will push back on the turks, but the president deserves some credit here, the sanctions on
the kurds, on isis, 15,000 in the area and 2 to make certain that the iranians don t cease oil fields. take a look at the map, the purple area is where the united states coalition forces are controlling eastern syria, up until erdogan s operation included the yellow area in the top. oil fields are somewhat down in the middle of the map, 70% are our under control, the red on the map is the iranians, they re on the west side of the valley and if we pull out of there and give up air space control, they will cease the oil fields. you covered enormous amount of ground there that concerns ethnic cleansing, the buffer zone where many kurdish people have lived for generations, but sort of expressed that perhaps, you know, there are things that are not the worst ever that you have a little bit of optimism, this is senator lindsey graham on sunday morning futures who
you are looking at a border town where much of the turkish shelling has occurred. journalists are seeing continuing fighting despite the administration hailing the cease-fire between turkish president erdogan and mike pence and mike pompeo. i can report, just got off the phone again with my source on the ground in a town 10 km away, and he is with an ngo. they have been trying to get trapped kurds, wounded kurds out of the area and the cease-fire was broken and he wonders if it was enforced. he makes a distinct point we have to focus on. he has not seen airstrikes in the last several hours, turkey has not been shelling, and the free syrian army aligns with turkey, they have been attacking the kurds relentlessly.
