russian bear is on the prowl, and it s not certain where that appetite stoch stops and starts. that nato coming together and the use of military force is something that people wonder whether the united states will really be there or not. right. and david, take a thereon a little bit more sound to president obama today on this. take a listen. we are not going to be getting into a military excursion in ukraine. might doesn t make right. and we are going to continue to ratchet up the pressure on russia as it continues down its current course. there s a better path, but i think even the ukrainians would acknowledge that for us to engage russia militarily would not be appropriate and wouldn t be good for ukraine either. what is the foreign policy strategy here? we heard more assertive talk
getting into a military excursion in the ukraine. i think even the ukrainians would acknowledge that for us to engage russia military would not be appropriate and wouldn t be good for ukraine either. in crimea, the situation is extremely volatile. right now there are reports a ukrainian rear admiral is being detained by unknown assailants or questioned by crimea prosecutors. ukraine s naval headquarters in crimea, overrun today by pro russian forces, who cut down a gate, trashed offices and razed the russian flag. ukrainian forces packed up and left, telling journalists there
u.s. military action against russia. we are not going to be getting into a military excursion in the ukraine. i think even the ukrainians would acknowledge that for us to engage russia military would not be appropriate and wouldn t be good for ukraine either. in crimea, the situation is extremely volatile. right now there are reports a ukrainian rear admiral is being detained by unknown assailants or questioned by crimea prosecutors. ukraine s naval headquarters in crimea, overrun today by pro russian forces, who cut down a gate, trashed offices and razed the russian flag. ukrainian forces packed up and left, telling journalists there was nothing they could do. elsewhere on the peninsula, ukrainian troops are still stuck in their bases while pro russian troops hover ominously outside. many civilians in crimea have
argue quite sinister. now let me go back to bill palmer, the commercial pilot here. bill palmer, when you heard the young woman talking about her experience with this copilot on this flight, what did you think as a pilot? well, for a u.s. airline that would be unprecedented, especially in a post-9/11 age. i don t think that ever happens on a u.s. airline. would a u.s. pilot, commercial pilot, be fired if they were caught doing that? i don t know what the penalty would be. but it would not wouldn t be good. and it just it s just hard to imagine thought actually happening. and she didn t think that there was any distraction element involved in what happened. but looking at the pictures they were all posing for, it s hard to imagine that they weren t distracted. they re supposed to be focused on flying the plane. i can t argue with that.
most of the people in the ukraine would like to see the united states stay out and would like to see the russians stay out. so for the two leaders to talk is wonderful. i just hope that it just doesn t aggravate the contest between the europeans and the americans against the russians because that wouldn t be good for the ukrainians. so i think talking and diplomacy is the answer here. why should we have to witness a civil war going in there and then us get involved? the further we stay away the better. congressman on a different crisis in syria, john mccain was here saying that our dillydallying, not backing up a threat of action and even just sort of waiting for talks to do their thing, the world has our number. they know we will never act. that we have become very, very anxious about getting involved in foreign conflicts and know we will never do it. so our bluff is always called. i wish that were so.
