An audit of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office finds more than a million dollars’ worth of missing equipment.
Newly elected sheriff Tommie Johnson III requested the audit upon entering office in an attempt to further transparency.
The Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspectors Office released the report which revealed the discrepancy.
The inventory list included 4,559 items. The report found 998 of those items were not found. The total value on those items was $2,150,089.
Additionally, the audit found 1,091 items totaling $4,845,141 have not been properly disposed of.
Three items totaling $3,758 were reported stolen.
The sheriff’s office says the items were worth $6.9 million, but when you factor in depreciation the final value is estimated at $1.4 million.
