A construction site in Lower Parel
A few years ago, I was pleasantly surprised to see a different side to the very modern Singapore. My very knowledgeable and personable guides, who often work with the Singapore Tourism Board, Josephine Wee and her husband Wee Toon Hee, took me around the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood. It is definitely a hipster hotspot, with quirky bookstores (Woods in the Books was delightful), trendy bakeries (the almond-encrusted croissants at Tiong Bahru Bakery and the pandan chiffon cakes at the more old-school ones should be considered national treasures!) and plenty of bespoke boutiques and vinyl-vending music shops. But it also has a number of traditional shophouses, meat-soup cafes and buildings from the 1930s that blend Art Deco with nautical and airplane themes.
re: Yet another BMW X3 20d on Team-BHP! Now 4.5 years, 33333 km
Not much to report since my last post. 15 Feb - 27,000 km. Thanks to the lock down, on 21 June - 28,500 km. And yes, the bulk of those km were between 15 Feb and 20 March.
What have I done since then? Well, just taken the car for weekly 4-5 km spins within our building compound, a couple of trips to get tests done when my wife fell ill, and then, we were subject to a quarantine for two weeks.
Well, all that is behind us now - and I have taken the car for a few spins over the past 3-4 days. First, a loop down to Bandra, across the Sea Link (it was such a pleasure letting the car stretch its legs after a long time), and back home via Elphinstone Bridge.

Mumbai: BMC razes Worli promenade for cityâs coastal road project
Local residents and environmentalists express their displeasure against the move
For the next one year, Mumbaikars will miss hanging around, at their favourite promenade at the Worli Sea Face as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has closed the existing promenade and have constructed a temporary concrete path alongside it.
In order to carry out construction works for the ambitious Coastal Road Project, the BMC had taken over the 85-year-old promenade back in 2019, with a promise to replace it with a swankier and larger sea side walkway.
BMC has now demolished almost half of the walkway facing the seaside and has erected barriers alongside it. Senior officials involved with the coastal road project have said that the entire promenade will be removed and new promenade will be created in the gap between the existing promenade and sea.
