It is 30 years since Sheffield hosted the 16th World Student Games.
At the time, it was the largest sporting event hosted in the UK since 1948 and thousands of international athletes, some who would become household names, took part.
But the games have been largely forgotten outside South Yorkshire. And some who do remember regret the city s decision to welcome young competitors. But should they?

As a top level cross-country skiing competitor, Alexander Maycock has spent most of his life keeping his body in shape to advance through his sport to the international level.
Maycock is well known locally for his athletic ability and now he is offering a performance training program as a coach to help athletes achieve their goals.
Alex is an MSc Kinesiology candidate and an NCCP coach with over a decade of high-performance cross-county skiing and middle distance running experience.
As a dual sport Varsity student-athlete in Nordic skiing and cross-country running, he earned a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education from Nipissing University.

From humble beginnings to the global stage, the soft-spoken blitz runner Raydon Ballie just has been announced as a 2021 Under Armour Elite Run Crew.
He grew up in Eersterivier Cape Town and says: âI always remind myself where I came from, not just the place where I lived or grew up, but the progress Iâve made thus far, knowing that I am blessed and enough through what I do. I always look to change and adapt my goals, while feeding the motivation to go for it.â
Ballie is a 26-year-old Nedbank Club Runner, specialising in Half Marathon times. He prides himself on his outstanding times, completing the Cape Peninsula Half Marathon in fourth place with a time of 1:05:47 as well as a 42km time of 2:34: 39.
