About 100 Virginia Beach middle school students took to the stage Tuesday to show off their new language skills with song, dance and poetry. They had just spent the last couple of weeks learning Chinese, Arabic and Russian at the STARTALK program hosted by Virginia Beach Public Schools.
The purpose of the summit was to build a small community of students across lines of difference, with hopes that their sense of community will ripple out into the larger community as they look to make more inclusive changes in their schools.
