PDP, Igbo group mourns Afenifere spokesman, Yinka Odumakin

Daily Post Nigeria Published A socio-cultural organization, World Igbo Peoples Assembly, WIPAS, has reacted to the death of Dr. Yinka Odumakin. The late Odumakin was a Rights Activist and the spokesman of the apex Yoruba socio-cultural body, Afenifere until his demise. WIPAS, in a press statement issued by its Board of Trustees, Chairman, Mazi Chuks Ibegbu, on Saturday, expressed shock over the demise of Odumakin. The group commiserated with the Yoruba nation, lovers of democracy and Nigerians over the painful news of Yinka’s exit. WIPAS disclosed that it has declared a one-week mourning period for the activist, who they described as a fallen hero that has sacrificed much in deepening the nation’s democracy.

Chuks Ibegbu, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the Board of Trustee Chairman of World Igbo Peoples Assembly, (WIPAS) has asked all Igbos all over Nigeria to protect themselves with whatever means and instrument at their disposal. Ibegbu stated this in view of the herders and farmers clashes in some states of the South East zone during an interview with DAILY POST on Thursday, noting that Ndigbo cannot allow themselves to be slaughtered in their own land again. The Ohanaeze chieftain called on all children, men and women to be security conscious as the Israelis do.

BREAKING: Nigerian doctors begin nationwide strike

Daily Post Nigeria Published Members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, have commenced a nationwide strike despite the Federal Government’s efforts to stop the action. NARD gave the explanation on Thursday in a message posted on the association’s Twitter account, @nard nigeria. It reads, “Nigerians must understand that we love them and the strike is not intended to hurt them but to challenge the Nigerian government @MBuhari @Fmohnigeria @LabourMinNG whose responsibilities amongst others is to care for her citizens and labour force to do the needful. NARD had said a few days ago that it would embark on an indefinite strike beginning from April 1 if the Federal Government failed to meet its demands.

Igbo Assembly rejects Eastern Narrow Gauge Rail project, blasts Amaechi

Daily Post Nigeria Published An Igbo sociopolitical organization, the World Igbo Peoples Assembly, (WIPAS), has rejected the narrow Gauge Rail line billed for the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri rail line. The Igbo group lambasted the Minister for Transportation, Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi for being part of the alleged sham and marginalisation of his people. DAILY POST recalls that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved the award of contracts for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri eastern narrow-gauge railway, with new branch lines and trans-shipment facilities. The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, had made this known when he briefed State House correspondents on the outcome of the 18th virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council, revealing that the Council approved the construction of a new deep seaport in Bonny, under the Private-Public- Partnership (PPP) programme and the construction of an Industrial railway park in Port H
