In recognition of World Glaucoma Week this year, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is urging the general public, particularly those most at risk of developing glaucoma, to undergo screening for early diagnosis and prevention. Glaucoma is an eye disorder that leads to progressive damage to the optic nerve, part of the eye that carries visual information from the retina to the brain, HMC explained in a statement. The cause of this condition is unknown. However, it is often linked to a buildup of pressure inside the eye. From March 7 to 13, HMC joins the World Glaucoma Association and World Glaucoma Patient Association to raise awareness on the importance of having regular eye checks to detect the condition early.
