Half the field of the Women’s Candidates will battle it out in a knockout event to decide who qualifies to a final match set to take place sometime in 2023. FIDE announced the adoption of a new format back in June, and has yet to disclose where and when the second group of players (i.e. Pool B) will fight for the remaining spot in the final. Pool A will take place from October 24 to November 6 at the Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlo.
The schedule and venue of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2022 have been recently announced by FIDE. The double round-robin tournament will be played at the magnificent Palacio de Santoña, a centrally located historic building in Madrid. The first round will take place on June 17.

The FIDE Council has approved the qualifying path to the Women’s Candidates Tournament 2022. The eight spots in the Women’s Candidates Tournament 2022 will be allocated based on the following criteria:
A. 1 spot – FIDE World Championship Match 2020, Runner-up
GM Goryachkina
B. 2 spots – FIDE Grand Prix Series 2019-20
The players who finish 1st and 2nd in the FIDE Grand Prix Series 2019-20. If one or two of these players is/are GM Ju Wenjun and/or GM Goryachkina, the reserved spot(s) is (are) awarded to the next non-qualifying player(s) in the final ranking of the FIDE Grand Prix Series 2019-20.
ECU to hold Hybrid Qualification for FIDE World Cup 2021
In the course of the 2nd ECU Board meeting on February 20, 2021, several important decisions regarding the European Qualification system for the World Championship Cycle have been made.
European Championship 2021 will be held in Reykjavik between August and September 2021, being a part of the next World Championship Cycle (FIDE World Cup 2023). The exact dates will be announced by the Icelandic Chess Federation the following days.
The European Open Chess Championship 2022 will be organized in Podčetrtek, Slovenia from March 27th (arrival) to April 9th (departure) 2022 and is a part of the World Championship cycle.
