China s Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan upset South Koreans with their use of a slang term in a match between the nations.
A foul-mouthed Chinese badminton player has caused widespread anger in South Korea after she repeatedly swore during a badminton match between the two countries at the Tokyo Olympics. Chen Qingchen was heard uttering a popular Chinese slang term – loosely translated as “f..k” – in Mandarin during a women’s doubles match against the South Korean pair of Kim Soyeong and Kong Heeyong, CNN reports. Chen first yelled the offending phrase after she and partner Jia Yifan dropped the first set. The Chinese duo then repeated the term for the remainder of the match, which they won 2-1. It could be heard throughout the live television broadcast in South Korea, prompting complaints.
