The five-story annex of the Bethlehem Steel General Office building was last used as a temporary school when mold at Freemansburg Elementary displaced students in 2000.
Today, visitors to the 120,000-square-foot building at East Third Street and Founder’s Way must don respirators and protective gear to visit the mold-and asbestos-riddled building that once housed Bethlehem Steel mainframe computers.
Local developer Michael Perrucci, who owns it and the adjacent 13-story general office building, sees the smaller annex as the perfect way to launch a phased redevelopment of the site. But first he must environmentally clean-up the annex he hopes to renovate into modern offices.
