Looking back at Xmas parties in Cumbria throughout the years

A look back at Workington in the 60s, 70s and 80s, who do you recognise?

We’ve got pictures from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. There’s a whole host of events for you to remember, everything from the Flying Scotsman visiting to fundraising events. The Flying Scotsman is an express passenger train service that has operated between Edinburgh and London, the capitals of Scotland and England, via the East Coast Main Line. The service began in 1862; the name was officially adopted in 1924. Our pictures show it passing through Workington in 1980. We’ve also got pictures of children receiving their cycling proficiency certificates in 1969. The Cycling Proficiency Test was a test given by Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents which served as a minimum recommended standard for cycling on British roads. It was superseded by the National Standards for Cycle Training, branded Bikeability, in England in 2007.
