need to support organized labor and unions. my first partner if politics is organized labor. it is my best partner. the idea of doing something that contravenes the rights of working people to organize is not something that i m willing to contemplate under any circumstances. democratic presidential hopeful tom steyer, thank you so much. more now on that debate boycott. i want to bring in chris lue. you worked with the dnc chair at the labor department. if this is not settled by thursday, what do you think he will do? well, look. as you said i had the chance to work with tom for three years and seen him resolve disputes and figure out a way to both accommodate the needs of at this point of the political party but also supporting the rights of workers. you know, i m not surprised these democratic candidates took this position. each has a strong record of fighting for a working men and
women and that means a good wage and good benefits which is what these workers at this university are pushing for. what s interesting is all seven of the qualifying candidates, we just spoke to one of them a moment ago, they have agreed to boycott if the labor dispute is not settled. how did that come to be? well, look. the democratic party as he said is on the side of working men and women not only pushing for better wages, benefits, but as importantly, supporting the rights of workers to join unions and have the unions address grievances and that s what s happening here and that s a stark contrast to the current president that we have. so this is not a surprise. this is actually the second time or they have moved the debate once. i m confident that tom perez, the chairman of the dnc, will figure something out here. hillary clinton had a relatively poor showing among union households in 2016 compared to barack obama in
britain under boris johnson tries to shift more towards america and, as you ve seen on twitter, donald trump already reaching out again to talk about a trade deal with the uk. new, stronger economic ties between the uk and america. historians, i think, will see this as kind of a between europe and america with britain in the middle and this vote, the british electorate has very much sided with america in many ways. keir, there are going to be times when the british government now has to choose between keeping washington happy and keeping europe happy when it s negotiating those trade deals, because they re not always in sync. here s a question for you. boris johnson has won over a whole load of traditionally labor party voters. does he have to keep them happy with policies that extend beyond brexit? will a conservative party now have to become the party of working men and women?
we need to be transparent and we have to talk about why it matters. but there are two things happening today. one on the impeachment. i wasn t elected to do what was popular but to protect our constitution and democracy. that s what my vote will reflect. have we in some way endangered our national security? and i think things that i ve seen and the obstruction of justice lead me to be very concerned. you re giving a win to president trump today. why would you give a win to president trump on the trade deal? i wasn t elected to is this good or bad for whatever political figure we re talking about. i was elected to protect this country, this constitution and the people of my district. nafta 1.0 hurt my district. it hurt my workers. i still have empty auto plants. i m happy about this agreement because hopefully it will protect working men and women not only in my district. bill: we heard from some
president. i want somebody that comes from the middle class, from the working american, to be our president, that understands what it is to try to make it in america as a family working in a factory on a construction job or an office, trying to put together the necessary resources to educate their kids, to provide their health care. that s joe biden. that s where he has been through his entire career, standing shoulder to shoulder with obama during those eight years, caring about our veterans, about the working men and women. i m all in for joe biden. was there something that has transpired over the last couple of months that has cemented your view? you listened to some of the critics about biden that he may not questioning whether he s relevant, whether he is in step and in tune with the american public, you know, spanning so many generations. what is it or is there a moment that solidified it for you?
