when you re driving in to work, you don t expect to see this, you pass it every day, but at this point, the building is covered with thick black smoke. that happened to our i-reporter, david morales, who is on the phone with us. david, are you there? yes, i am. when you passed this, tell us exactly what you saw. when i came under the overpass, you saw the smoke coming out really thick. they had one of the lanes blocked off so you couldn t drive up to where the feeder road where the building is. the cars were moving at a fairly nice speed. the cops were waving people on to not pile up too much. but a lot of the ems and the fire trucks were all concentrated around the building. and you couldn t see a point of impact, because there was so much smoke coming out of the building. yeah, we re hearing that from different people at different angles. the impact they couldn t see because of the black smoke. tell me about the smoke. you are driving along the road and cars are still going
to be completely demolished and the focus of a lot of emergency operations right now. as you can imagine, you are going to see just about every kind of emergency personnel in central texas on the scene of that as well as probably the federal government. let s go back to matt plainer who is there live. matt, is that first of all, can you hear me? reporter: yeah, i got you. second of all, is that point of dirt that you were showing us, does that appear from your perspective to be an impact point? reporter: chris, i had a little trouble all right, let s do this. we re going to keep an eye on the affiliate work there from kxan. good stuff. i think most dramatically you saw pictures there of what looked like the wreckage of the aircraft in question here into that building there. our mary lynn ryan, she runs our southeast bureau, mary lynn, you re on the phone with us? reporter: hey, tony. good to talk to you. what are you learning about this? reporter: well, i talked to
are closed. we ask everyone to stay away from the area until things start to subside or start to relax. there is no electricity, again, in the immediate area, so there will be a lot of red lights that are out right now. pay attention, stop at those intersections so there aren t any accidents. is the power outage affecting residents? yes. it is affecting residents. yes. let s do this. let s leave this. maybe we can put it in the gizmo or something. but let s leave it for now. let s get to the i-reporters on the phone with us, mike ernest. you were getting an oil change at this time this happened? correct. i was getting my oil changed. it was right across the highway from the building that was hit, and i noticed a plane was flying unusually low. i didn t i didn t think there was an airport nearby, so i thought it was kind of weird, and saw the plane hit the lower to midsection of the building. couldn t believe it. wow. what did you see? i mean, i see your photo here,
from witnesses, i-reporters, who snapped into action very quickly, getting us dramatic pictures, and video, of the crash site, and i know you re helping us tell the story as well. absolutely. we spoke with cynthia reed moments ago, i called every station i could find. a lot of concern for anyone who was in the building. as you were speaking with jeanne, we got a little more information from the faa, this time from ft. worth, rather than d.c., faa telling the plane did depart georgetown, texas, as you heard. 45 minutes in turned toward the south and started descending. we re also being told at the faa in texas, it was a cirrus flight. it s a breaking news situation. cnn is reaching out on every single front we have, trying to reach all the numbers we can to get you all the latest information about what s happened there in austin. let me talk to you. one of the first concerns people have is how many people might be injure today. we spoke with the representative
