don t think people understand. a lot of democrats don t understand a lot of people in the leadership don t understand. this isn t 1980. this discussion of reagan democrats and the sort of working class, you talk about the working class like it s lunch bucket joe. the working class the majority if the country are women. you you re talking about young people. 18 to 35. they make the least amount of money. you talk about working class talking about people of color. they make the least amount of money. that s who the working class is. somehow when we have the discussions on the shows, we talk about well we have to not get too far to the left. or get progressive. we ll lose the white working class vote. well, i don t know maybe that was true 30 years ago. it s not true. nearly 70% of the elect or the next year eligible voters in the
it was interesting because i think before all of this, she was seen as a very east coast, almost, you know, exclusively far left democratic candidate who couldn t make end roads with voters who could be perceived to flip from president trump to the democratic side. she has been trying to make her voice heard, and trying to make an effort with these voters holding countless town halls in these states, especially iowa, and i think the trump campaign is looking at someone like elizabeth warren, starting to cut into bernie sanders progressive working class space, and remember, president trump, and bernie sanders, their two bases overlap when it comes to the working class vote. i think they are looking at that as well, and i think also, it could be argued that elizabeth warren has more sway with more establishment voters than a bernie sanders would. maybe that makes her more, i guess, marketable to both progressive and establishment voters and i think that s something the trump campaign is
with 14%. john lemire, it really does look as though some of what folks were saying initially might happen is elizabeth warren and bernie sanders are dueling in there for that progressive, working class vote. it seems that way. senator warren does seem to have having a bit of a moment here. the idea of i have a plan for that has caught on. also, just her retail politics skills have sharpened and you improved. greeted enthusiastically, particularly money women voters. we re seeing something real there. other things to note, mayor pete buttigieg has stepped into the slot that a lot of people pegged beto o rourke that he might find room there, at least for the moment he s not. he s revamping his campaign. it s early, stuff can change.
we know of his racist comments and background. you spent that s not even counting the policies of this administration. we have consent decrees all over this country including in cleveland. we have a justice department that s turned its back on it. we know about voter suppression. i was secretary of state of ohio. my job when i was secretary of state was to encourage people of all races to vote, especially young people and especially young people of color. and we worked at that. we now have a government that suppresses the vote, and we know what happened in georgia and we know what happened in florida. one of the ways you ve talked about your potential candidacy for president while you were in iowa, you talked about talking to the working class voters that you thought democrats had been ignoring. there is a racial component to that conversation as far as some are concerned, that the white working class vote, it s a cultural reason that even though the democratic policies, maybe
can t have another black guy. you know why i m not subscribing to that theory, but you know why it comes up. because i m a black guy. right. what did you think of his appearance? his former vp is likely running. after the 2016 election and the democrats s autopsy report, there was a feeling they y neg t neglected the white working class vote. you see it there, for example. democrats and members of the media turned to people like bernie sanders or joe biden. in the mid-terms, we saw a historic wave of women come into the house and the senate. it shows that the democratic party although this white working class is a vote they really look for, there is an entire block of the party they need to work to attract. julia manchester and thank
