Local educators filled the meeting of the Grayson County Commissioners this week as participants in the Business Education for Teachers program were welcomed to the county offices on Tuesday
As part of the program, the teachers sat in on the meeting to see how commissioners do their job of managing county assets, policies and roads. We take teachers and put them in our local industries, Workforce Solutions Texoma representative Julie Baula said of the program that teaches teachers about the type of jobs available in the area and the kinds of skills students need to learn to be able to do those jobs.
Through the help of two new outreach specialists, Workforce Solutions Texoma is working on a new way to help educate students about locally-available jobs and what they need to do to pursue them.
Grayson College gets certified nurse aide test center

Grayson College’s Center for Workplace Learning is now an in-facility test center for the Nurse Aide Competency Exam administered by Prometric. In-facility test center approval from Prometric means that Grayson College’s Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) students can receive training and test for certification in the same location on Grayon’s main campus in Denison.
“Grayson College has again met a need in service to its students and the Texoma community,” Workforce Solutions Executive Director Janie Bates said.
“When the administration of CNA certification exams changed to Prometric in September 2020, the number of testing centers fell dramatically,” Director of Continuing Education at Grayson College Kate Corder explained. “Students were successfully completing our training program and employers wanted to hire them, but there was very limited availability at testing centers to get our students certif

The Sherman-Denison unemployment rate rose for the month of November as it continued its rollercoaster course through the fall and winter months.
The Texas Workforce commission released its monthly job report for November, which reported that the local unemployment rate rose 1.1 percent for the month. This continued a four-month back-and-forth as the rate has bounced between 5 and 6 percent. If I had been making predictions of what would happen from October to December, I would think we would go down half a point to 4.5 (percent), Workforce Solutions Texoma Executive Director Janie Bates said.
