The NHS workforce plan needs a major focus on staff wellbeing if it is to have any chance of success, writes Narinder Kapur The NHS recently published its workforce plan,1 and although it is welcome, it lacks a focus on wellbeing. Wellbeing is mentioned in several parts of the report, but only one paragraph is dedicated to discussing it. By contrast, the NHS Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion plan provides details about the importance of staff wellbeing, with proposed procedures to ensure fair treatment of staff and the prevention of bullying, harassment, and discrimination.2 The workforce plan will be hindered severely if staff are distressed and demoralised. Many studies show the close relationship between staff wellbeing and patient outcomes.
