The Malaysian government has planned to temporarily house migrant workers in private hotels to tackle the worsening spread of Covid-19 cases which is believed to result from congested conditions in dormitories.
In a statement on Saturday, Malaysia’s Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry said the programme will help curb the coronavirus outbreak.
According to the ministry, the decision was made during a special National Security Council meeting on Covid-19 on January 26.
The decision has come up at a time when Malaysian Association of Hotels has said that more than 100 hotels have closed down all over the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
