In 2019, the most recent year of the study period, total costs per claim increased moderately. “The increase in total costs per claim in 2019 was largely driven by a 6 percent increase in indemnity benefits per claim. Over the earlier period from 2015 to 2018, indemnity benefits per claim had remained fairly stable,” said Ramona Tanabe, executive vice president and general counsel of WCRI.
