a somewhat dim view of the cost of college. i m among them. a lot of people have written great books but you can t really argue with the simple facts. 1.7 trillion in outstanding student loans. 11 million open positions most of which don t require a four-year degree and we have a steady drumbeat of get the four-year degree or you are screwed. dana: talk about your foundation, the scholarship. this is exciting. i will reach out to a couple of the women that were in your program because i want to talk to them about the things they ve accomplished. that s great news. this is our 10th year of the work ethic scholarship program. we give away millions of dollars a year for kids who want to learn a skill and master a trade. plumbing, steam fitting, pipe fitting, welding, hvac and so forth. a lot of women in our program.

started a work ethic scholarship program. work ethic still matters and it is something we can control. and there is such a thing as a collective work ethic. it s like a foul ball. it s either going up or coming down. it s been coming down for 15 years. what you just read and what s making the rounds is a lot of research by the author of men without work. in this word we have never seen the likes of this before. never in peacetime have so many able bodied men affirmatively chosen to sit out. we can argue what it means for the country or why it s happening. i have got theories and other people do as well. there is no denying the reality
