Remembering the Worcestershire NHS staff who died of coronavirus

It has been revealed that at least 212 UK frontline health and care workers have been identified after dying with coronavirus. Sadly, three members of staff from Worcestershire Royal Hospital paid the ultimate price in their bid to protect and care for others. Here we remember them and thank them for their service. MISSED: Julie Omar sadly died of coronavirus Julie Omar, 52 Matthew Hopkins, chief executive of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, paid tribute to Julie Omar, who died at home on April 10. In a video message to staff, Mr Hopkins said: I wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your continuing and great efforts which will ensure we can meet the growing number of sick patients in our hospitals with Covid-19, particularly on this sad day when I had to share the news of the sudden death of one of our own, a much loved member of our nursing team, Julie Omar.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital at second highest alert levels as calls for stricter lockdown

Meanwhile there are calls from scientists for the government to make the lockdown stricter, with measures similarly to the March lockdown of last year, as pressure on hospitals continued to grow. Measures speculated that could be introduced included nurseries closed, support bubbles ended, face mask being made compulsory in outdoor areas, and exercise limited to one hour. Worcester’s MP Robin Walker said: “Any decisions made will be based on evidence. It is really crucial people follow and obey measures that are in place, because the risk is if they don’t we do risk even more severe measures being put in place.

CORONAVIRUS: No new deaths recorded in Worcestershire s hospitals (Dec 14)

The latest NHS England figures, released today (December 14), show no new deaths. As it stands the number of deaths in Worcestershire Acute Hospital Trust s hospitals are at 379, and at Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust it stands at 33. This means that in total there have been 412 Covid-19 related deaths in Worcestershire hospitals. And in all settings, including care homes and hospices, there have been at least 656 deaths. The Acute Hospitals Trust covers Worcestershire Royal Hospital, as well as the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and Kidderminster Hospital. The Health and Care NHS trust covers community hospitals and rehabilitation wards, including Worcester City Impatient Unit, Malvern Community Hospital, Evesham Community Hospital, Pershore Community Hospital, the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove, Tenbury Community Hospital and the Wyre Forest Ward.
