A $1B patriotic theme park in Maine featuring the world's tallest flagpole and one of the largest American flags is proposed by the family behind Wreaths Across America.
The proposed Flagpole of Freedom would stand 1,776 feet above sea level, 300 feet taller than the spire of the Empire State Building. Three elevators inside the pole would sweep visitors up to glass observation decks.
Governor Janet Mills on April 18 signed a law allowing the town to absorb roughly 10,400 acres of what is now unorganized territory. The land, owned by the Worcester family, is intended for the future Flagpole of Freedom Park.
While the idea may seem far-fetched, the family that founded Wreaths Across America is serious about their plans for a 2,500-acre park dedicated to all American military veterans. The price tag: $1 billion.
