WooSox to temporarily take over space originally slated for delayed bioscience facility

When the Worcester Red Sox open their third season at Polar Park on March 31 against the Syracuse Mets, the team plans on temporarily taking over the space set aside for the delayed Left Field Building, which is part of a five-building planned development slated to help pay for the $160-million public baseball stadium.

(Shutterstock) WORCESTER, MA The Worcester Red Sox will soon begin selling more single-game tickets ahead of a series of home games at Polar Park that will come after Massachusetts ends pandemic restrictions on May 29. Polar Park opened two weeks ago at only about 25 percent capacity, and with very few single-game tickets available. Starting May 24, fans will have access to a larger number of single-game tickets for the June games in Worcester against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the Rochester Red Wings (members of the free-to-join Worcester Red Sox Booster Club can buy tickets beginning Saturday).

The announcement of single-game tickets for the month of June comes after Governor Baker’s office announced Monday it would lift the state’s remaining COVID restrictions and capacity limits on May 29. Starting Tuesday, May 18, groups of 15 or more can start booking their outings for the entire season by calling the WooSox front office at 508-500-8888 or emailing ticketoffice@woosox.com. Group outings begin June 1, the start of the second homestand of the season, and can be purchased for any game thereafter, the ball cub announced in its release.

The first five days of alternate site action in Worcester featured a wet workout, an ace appearance and a historic home run, among plenty of other storylines. The tarp was on the field to begin the day on April 1, but although the Boston Red Sox were forced to postpone their Opening Day due to the weather, the WooSox were able to get in a workout, eventually getting onto the infield dirt for practice. Red Sox Director of Player Development and Worcester native Brian Abraham was on hand for day one of the alternate site and got a chance to see the reality of professional baseball in his hometown.
