WOOSTER Many community Christmas meals are canceled due to pandemic restrictions, but several groups are ensuring hundreds get fed this holiday season.
The Wooster Mennonite Church will transition to a carryout meal for its annual Christmas Eve gathering. Since 2003, the church has served those in the community who have nowhere to go for Christmas or who can’t afford a Christmas meal. About 200 people typically attend and church volunteers cook the meal.
“When we looked into cooking the meal ourselves as we usually do, we couldn’t figure out a good way to do it safely while social distancing,” said Laurie Johnson, a member of the Outreach team that organizes the meal each year.
