our top secret spy agency can be so easily hacked. that s a major part of what the story is about, as well as the other things that were mentioned. the senator john mccain talked about how very important it is to address that and there are many stories, many angles that will be covering all of it. jon: it sounds like you don t necessarily have a problem with what wikileaks has released here. i think back and i remember my education as a kid was watching woodward and bernstein and discussion of deep throat, who we now know as mark felt in an effort to expose the nature of the government was doing. my generation grew up with that
conference, everyone watches. people tune in to the press conference. people get back to their office and tune in to the press conference. it s bringing out the worst part of the media and bringing out the best part of trump. what is the worst thing in the world? when they re not talking about you, right? that s all they re doing, trump said this about us, do you believe it? can you believe what he said bad about us today. lisa: i want to get greg in here. what do you think of all this? greg: of what? what s your problem? [ laughter ] greg: seriously, what is your problem? answer the question, what do you have a problem with me, is that it? lisa: i was going to talk to you between the commercial break. greg: you know what, forget it? they are not thin skinned is that correct the answer you want? [ laughter ] greg: what drives me crazy about the media. eric: i was getting nervous. greg: were you really? eric: a little bit. greg: the media has changed so much. they
i am currently working on a netflix documentary about hillary clinton s e-mails. really? and the case surrounding that. apparently that s the way to get people to find faults with authority figures because otherwise she has all these blind mice followers who, it s no big deal. no big deal. even though the evidence is so clearly there that she has done wrong. that s a good point. where are the woodward and burnsteins? instead of investigating such things they wait for the stuff to drop and then pick through it like at a rummage sale and then move on. this is interesting. where is the woodward and bernstein. i don t really get the reference. i m sorry. i m young and cool. so i don t get it, but hillary clinton, we already know for a fact she s a nightmare. she s a liar and breaks the rules for her own benefit
he s he has a ginn compassionate exterior. but what i found out, what sat underneath that was a tremendous kind of a wolf desire to get to the truth. and so that dichotomy is what interested me. i look at all your movies and you re going the series about winners. and the candidate being one of them. the candidate i still think is the best political movie. i ve seen them all. investigative reporting, you have the fabulous woodward-bernstein team. you you captured the excitement and the honesty of those guys, the courage to take on a presidency and all his men and to have them do it just as two young guys. you really do find the romance in politics and in journalism and especially when they clash, like this movie shows. well, that s because that s because what i m most interested in is the characters themselves. with woodward and bernstein,
when i went into that, and i spent four years working on that project, there was a similarity by the way with what s happening with rather and mary mapes and woodward and bernstein, there s a difference because with woodward and bernstein they were going after the truth, they were digging in to get to the truth against the odds of an administration that did not want that revealed. yeah. but they had the support today p their bosses. they had kay graham and ben bradley. they had their support. in this situation you had rather and mapes trying to do the very same thing, but in the end they did not have the support of their bosses because you look at the picture then you get into the whole thing about the conjunction between corporations, media and journalism. and i remember boy, i ll tell you. i m a big devotee of honest good news. and i remember there was a time, and i think the film says this. there was a time when the news
