A GROUP of students were tasked to design the home of the future in a project with a social housing provider. Magna Housing organised a full-day event for 175 students in year 10, at The Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis, to design a home of the future. Students had to produce an elevation drawing, floor plans and a written summary of key features. They had to think about who the home was for, where it would be - in a town or the countryside, what features it would have, how the people that live there would get around and what environmental impact there might be.
DOZENS of outstanding Dorset schools are set to face inspectors for the first time since controversial exemptions were axed. From September, Ofsted will resume inspecting schools across the country and for the first time in almost a decade, those deemed outstanding will also face compulsory routine visits. Figures from the education watchdog, covering 150 of Dorset s primary and secondary schools, show that 25 received an outstanding rating the last time they were inspected. Under rules introduced in 2012, those schools became exempt from being routinely reinspected and only faced scrutiny if concerns were raised about their performance. The exemptions were introduced by the then Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition Government to give outstanding schools more freedom.
