MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ Four suspects are behind a spree of 84 home invasions/burglaries across the state in the past year, and some of the break-ins occurred in Middlesex and Monmouth counties, according to New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal.
The 84 total burglaries all took place between October 2020 and March 2021, in eight different New Jersey counties: Morris, Bergen, Essex, Somerset, Passaic, Monmouth, Middlesex and Union, as well as lower New York state.

WOODCLIFF, N.J. A vice president at Columbia University has been arrested and placed on administrative leave after being accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 at his New Jersey home, officials say.
Marcelo Velez, 46, was taken into custody Monday by the Woodcliff Lake Police Department. He is facing one count of aggravated sexual assault, one count of endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of sexual assault by sexual contact, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
The office said in a statement that police on Sunday received information that Velez “engaged in sexual acts with a child under the age of 13” and following an investigation, it was determined that the alleged acts happened inside his residence in Woodcliff Lake.
Columbia University VP charged with sexual assault of a minor
A Columbia University vice president was arrested Monday after allegations that he had “engaged in sexual acts with a child under the age of 13” at his home in New Jersey, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
Marcelo Velez, 56, was arrested at his home in Woodcliff Lake, and charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault by sexual contact and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, according to the prosecutor’s office.
CNN was unable to immediately identify an attorney for Velez.
