Photo: 123RF The proposed changes - released to the public this morning - come as part of a draft Setting of Speed Limits Rule, which Minister of Transport Michael Wood said would mean 30 km/h speed zones outside urban schools, and a maximum of 60 km/h outside rural schools. Urban schools could have a maximum speed limit of 40 km/h where appropriate , he said. Late last year, following calls for a nationally standardised 40 km/h school zone, Wood told Local Democracy Reporting he didn t think a one-size-fits-all approach is right given the different needs of communities. At the same time, Wood s National Party counterpart said some standardisation might make sense.
