The car then crashed Near Parliament and at least one man, armed with a knife, continued the attack into parliament. Sadly, i can confirm that now four people have died. That includes the Police Officer who was watching parliament and one man we believe to be the attacker, who was shot by a Police Officer. The officers family have been made aware. At least 20 people have been injured. As part of long established and well rehearsed plans, parliament has been locked down. That response included uniformed foreign officers. We now of course have an on going operation on what we currently believe there was only one attacker. Im sure the public will understand that were taking every precaution in locking down and searching the area as thoroughly and exhaustively as possible. And i know that the officials
working within parliament are in the area completely understand the need to do this and i thank them for their patience and their support. This investigation has the full weight and expertis
african-americans turned out in greater numbers to vote for him. 96% than did white voters. 2020 more people voted than ever. the idea you are suppressing the vote is a manipulation of language. before you could not have illegal immigrants vote in new york. now you can as nancy pelosi and others said 17 years old and 18 years old should vote and ex-felons. they are trying to enlarge the electorate because it doesn t feel their electoral needs. they need to get the filibuster eliminated or this won t pass. we are talking about january 6th, these guys are stone cold revolutionaries. they know what they are doing. they are 10 times for dangerous than that clownish group that went into the capitol on january 6th. they are more dangerous than the
that. so joe manchin joined in the effort to come together and get a bill which he thought could get ten republican senators to join on to and have 60, not to do it by the majority rules rules, but do it with the 60 votes that the senate requires unfortunately. so there was movement. there was work and what we did, we didn t pass hr-1 again, we passed the manchin bill again, the freedom to vote act. i think it s unfair to sort of say they re just sitting on there keep passing stuff that won t pass. i think this bill, frankly i didn t see sinema s speech so i m not sure exactly what she said, but my thought was this bill had 50 votes for it plus the vice president so it had enough votes to pass, but it didn t have enough votes to suspend the rules and make an exception on the filibuster
in 2024 politics as well. we are living in some unusually tumultuous times in terms of the instability of the two major parties in power. it s shocking how often we change party control of the house, white house and senate in the first part of this century. only really one other time in history have we been this volatile. president biden, though, is approaching the one-year mark of his presidency, struggling to combat a covid surge, struggling to get major pieces of his agenda through democratic-controlled congress with those small majorities. the senate is right now debating the voting rights agenda on the floor. there is not enough support to get it passed leaving democrats fighting amongst themselves over rule changes that probably won t pass, either. there s also the weight of midterm history facing president biden and the democrats. the incumbent president s party has lost an average of 29 house seats ins first midterm election, republicans only need to flip five this cycle. most
january 6th to make part of the case for why the senate needs to pass voting rights legislation. there s a pending vote on suspending the filibuster to make some progress on this issue. how concerned are you that the vote won t pass? will it come down to senator joe manchin? i m deeply concerned that this will not pass this year as we head into the midterm elections. i ve had these conversations with friends in democratic leadership in the house and senate. while publicly people are optimistic, most people are pessimistic for a number of reasons. but i would say it must get done because the reality is black democrats have given this party control of the house and senate and the white house. and the democratic party owes it to their main constituency to pass legislation and protect the right to vote for black americans and all americans across the country. tara and michael hardaway, thank you for joining me.
