and the republican party has to get better at because we ve got our rears handed to us in a lot of these key races on the early vote. now on the election day ballots, which is about 200,000 ballots, that s the next the people i talked to tell me there is a much larger republican registration advantage where these ballots come from republican areas so they feel much more optimistic. as chris said, there s some 50,000 or so going to come from other republican leaning states. in both florida and arizona, this is also important to remember, it takes quite a few days to get all these military ballots. i do not think kristin sinema was too popular with her pink two toes. i think all of us are worried that when there are big leads on election night and get to counting these last ballots, there has to be complete transparency and you have to have the ability for rs and ds
it was basically it felt like he had to say that in order to get his deal. i think they definitely wanted him to plead. absolutely. he had other crimes. but he went in open court, implicated the president. we reported based on multiple sources that he coordinated with david packer, the ceo of the national inquires payoff one of the questions i had reading through your piece, as you said, the political side of this is different from the legal side of this. there s not not a lot of potential legal jeopardy that has been spelled out clearly in all of this because you are allowed to make a settlement with someone, allowed to pay someone off. he said he didn t pay them off and didn t have this relationship. you are not allowed to do that to influence an election. that s where the potential campaign finance violation existed. he s the president and you cannot prosecute.
martha: i m wondering if there s a pattern of these kind of payments across someone s life, is that a mitigating argument whether or not had anything to do with the election? potentially but it would also have to deal with what timing is this payment, about why they made the particular payment, stormy daniels was paid to go weeks before the election. that s a timing issue. martha: in terms of john edwards. he basically said, look, i didn t want my family i didn t want it to come out. one of the potential defenses for the president is, of course i did not want to admit to this payment or this arrangement because it s embarrassing to me, it would be embarrassing to my family, and it s a private matter. that would definitely be a defense the president would assert. in this case, edwards is a little different because some of the payments were made after he dropped out of the presidential race. a lot of experts opined this would be a stronger case it
feel like next time there is an eric cano harvey, we are not going to get flooded. workforce training, getting that middle skill workforce in the country, with 7 million job openings, it s a good problem to have. but how do you fill that gap? it s a skills gap more often. that something we can work together on as well. martha: i want you to talk about what went on in californi california. 12 people killed by obviously someone who was not in his right mind out in california. he s a marine. did served in afghanistan. a lot of talk about ptsd with regard to this. obviously all members of the military and all-americans are sensitive to drawing connections between those two things. is there anything that stands out to you in that story as a veteran? as a veteran, first, it s a heartbreaking story. i can t imagine what those families are going through. there was a fellow at
we ve got to make sure you are you. that s everywhere. it s not a crime to vote if you are not registered and you can always ask for a provisional ballot. when you get to the canvas later in the week, elected or appointed officials, they are going to review and say does this matchup? is this person who is this person is? when you have the turnout like we did, i m talking about 114 million people voting in a midterm election which is astonishingly high. martha: how much was it last time around, chris? [laughs] it was weak sauce. just for frame of reference, it was the lowest turnout since 1942? this is the highest turnout since 1966. we blew off the doors of the sucker and that s great but that means there s going to be a lot more to do. martha: very interesting. great to see you tonight. thanks for being here.
