Bei den 74. Internationalen Filmfestspielen Cannes werden am Samstagabend die Hauptpreise vergeben. 24 Beiträge konkurrieren um die Auszeichnungen. Trophäen gibt es für den besten Film, die beste Regie und die besten männlichen und weiblichen Schauspieler. Zu den Favoriten für den Grossen Preis der Jury zählen zwei Werke, bei denen Frauen Regie führten: Das sind der feministische Gruselfilm «Titane» von Julia Ducournau sowie das Drama «The Divide» von Catherine Corsini. In Cannes wurde erst einmal ein Film einer Regisseurin mit der Goldenen Palme geehrt. 2020 konnte das Filmfest wegen der Pandemie nicht stattfinden; in diesem Jahr wurde es von Mai auf Juli verschoben.
