Latimer Appoints Martha Lopez to Senior Position Written by Westchester County Director of Minority and Women-Owned Business Development Westchester County Executive George Latimer is proud to announce the promotion of Martha Lopez to serve as Director of Minority and Women-owned Business Development. Lopez, who from 2001 to 2009 served as the Director for Hispanic Affairs for Westchester County and currently serves as Director of Program and Policy for MWBE and Immigrant Affairs, will begin her new role on February 1, 2021 Latimer said: “Martha is a consistent advocate for improving the lives of Westchester residents – both while on the County team and in her personal life. This new role will allow her to expand her opportunities to serve our community and make real, tangible, positive change in the lives of the people who call Westchester home.”

State of the City 2021: Mayor de Blasio Announces A Recovery for All of Us Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a bold recovery plan for all New Yorkers as part of his 2021 State of the City address and unveiled the City’s recovery website: RecoveryForAll.nyc.gov.  “New York City always fights back,” said  Mayor Bill de Blasio. “And we will do so again. Together, we will create a stronger, fairer and safer city for all New Yorkers.” The Mayor’s 2021 agenda is centered around using public health to drive a fair recovery for all New Yorkers. The plan prioritizes vaccinating against COVID-19 to jumpstart the recovery, using the City government to fight inequality, building a fairer economy, helping our children recover emotionally and academically from the impact of COVID, strengthening community based solutions to public safety and fighting the climate crisis.

As a small business owner entering the recreational cannabis space without outside investors or an existing medical license, she had been caught unexpectedly in an endless bureaucratic loop with Massachusetts s Cannabis Control Commission (CCC). Since Calyx is a woman-owned business, Norman s path to a recreational license was supposed to be expedited. To prove to the CCC that Calyx was woman-owned however, it had to be third-party certified through an on-site visit to the store made impossible without the license to open from the CCC. Norman eventually brought the unrealistic hurdle to CCC Commissioner Shaleen Title, which prompted the CCC to change its requirements.
