speaker told reporters that they re not close to a deal at this point. are you concerned about timing at this point in. look, i think everybody needs to relax. regardless of what may be said about the talks on a day-to-day basis, the president and the speaker will reach an agreement, it will be passed on a bipartisan vote in both the house and the gnat. live look at capitol hill, it s 6:00 a.m. on the east coast. and that was senate minority leader mitch mcconnell trying to calm fears about a u.s. default. we ll have the latest in the negotiations over the deceiling. plus, florida governor desantis chooses an unusual platform for launching his presidential campaign. we ll get into that, that has definitely never been done before and another southern state passes an extreme abortion bill despite bipartisan efforts to block it. we ll also have new reporting on the status of the mar-a-lago classified documents investigation, which some legal experts feel is the strongest leg
lucas pom tom lynnson at the white house tomlinson, and virginia republican lieutenant governor winsome sears. welcome, everybody, i m neil cavuto and happy weekend. so far a happy and, thus far, calm weekend after the supreme court s historic 6-3 decision to essentially gut roe v. wade. let s go to alexandria hoff at the supreme court with how things are looking there. reporter: hi, neil. yeah, a few more protesters have arrived over past hour, several dozen now with chants breaking out. but this time yesterday, neil, when that decision came down, the most immediate and audible reaction came from the pro-life side. there were cheers and tears for what they saw as the recognition of life before birth, something they d been waiting over 50 # years to do. and as the department of homeland security warned of a night of rage, things did remain mostly calm. an american flag was burning here in d.c., similar symbolic symbolic of the anger after the court did undo roe v. wade.
individual women. 25 states in the u.s. now have moved to restrict abortions since the overturning of roe last june. and 14 of those states have basically banned abortions at six weeks. you don t know whether you re pregnant. many women don t know whether they re pregnant in the time frame that south carolina is giving them. south carolina had actually been a place where women could go in the south. many of the states that have banned or restricted abortions have been in the south, and they need to go to other states. south carolina had been something of a safe haven. so for a woman in florida, for example, we ve spoken to women who have had pregnancies that went wrong, who have had fetal abnormalities. who risked something like sepsis. they have to go somewhere else to get an abortion. they were going to south carolina. now they can t do that anymore. it s going to put a lot of pressure on the state of virginia and abortion providers in virginia. virginia now remains really one of the
it s not a crime for the mother, it s a crime for the person who do it, aid or abet or solicit it. we know an oklahoma woman if she wants to have an abortion, she can go to colorado, anywhere else, any other states that permit it, but we re celebrating, neil, the fact that for about three weeks, oklahoma s been abortion-free for the first time since 1973. neil: so if there are any doctors or clinics or agencies that worked at even now to offer women abortions, they re technically breaking the law and they could they could be leading a crime? that s right, it s not a technical violation, it is a violation. it s a felony and they re open to civil penalties and we have a texas style private right of civil enforcement. anybody in oklahoma could sue that doctor for financial
Why Amendments to Medical Termination of Pregnancy Bill Don t Go Far Enough
Abortion is not merely a medico-technical issue but a fulcrum of a broader ideological struggle in which the very meaning of the family, the state, motherhood, and women s sexuality are contested.

Last week, the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill (MTP) received the presidentâs assent and was notified by the Central government on March 25, 2021. The Bill amends the MTP Act 1971, which regulates the conditions under which a pregnancy may be aborted. The amendments to the new Bill increase the time period within which an abortion can be legally conducted.
