BiFab: Nearly 300 jobs to be created at bought-out yard in Fife

BiFab went into administration last year NEARLY 300 jobs are to be created at a bought-out yard in Fife for the manufacture of wind turbine foundations. Burntisland Fabrications (BiFab), which has yards in Burntisland and Methil in Fife and one on the Isle of Lewis, went into administration at the end of last year after Scottish Government ministers ruled out nationalising the company. Harland and Wolff (Methil) Limited, a subsidiary of InfraStrata, took over the Methil and Lewis sites in February following an £850,000 deal. The new owner has now been awarded a contract by Saipem Limited for the fabrication, consolidation and load-out of the foundations to be conducted at the Methil plant.

City pars ASDA APPOINTS NEW FINANCE BOSS Supermarket chain Asda has announced that deputy finance chief John Fallon will succeed Rob McWilliam, who leaves this summer. Mr McWilliam originally became chief financial officer in 2018 to help Asda through the proposed merger with Sainsbury’s. That deal fell through – however, Mr McWilliam had a “pivotal role” in helping the company to its new ownership under the Issa brothers, who agreed to take over the chain last year. The Times reported earlier this week that many members of Asda’s senior staff are looking to leave after getting final payouts from a share scheme run by current owner Walmart. Mr Fallon joined Asda’s finance team in 1996, and became deputy chief financial officer in 2018.
